Where is the Dumbfoundedness?

# 666 Today's Du-votional comes from: Mr 13:14 "So when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not" (let the reader understand), "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. (Mr 13:14-16)

Again, it's very important to note that Jesus is talking about the immediate destruction of Jerusalem which would occur in the year 70 A.D. He says that the warning siren for His followers would be the “abomination of desolation” “standing where it ought not,” namely the holy place as Matthew put it, which means in the temple.

Something would happen in the Temple that Daniel had called, the “abomination of desolation? Okay, so what does that mean? Well, an abomination is something absolutely detestable, and the word “desolation” means to stupefy. Something so absolutely detestable was going to take place in the temple that people will be dumfounded, speechless.

There are many theories as to what this abomination was but I believe it was the slaughter of their Jewish brethren by the Idumeans and the zealots that took place in the temple. The Roman historian Josephus records the slaughter of 8500 people within the walls of the temple, and he noted that this carnage was the beginning of the end for Jerusalem.

Evidently the Christians noted it too, because they fled and were spared

I wonder about the modern day Temple, the church of Jesus Christ. Are there abominations taking place in the church that cause you to be “stupefied?” God hates the spilling of innocent blood. (Abortion?) He hates divorce. And how do you think he feels about false teaching, and those who would add to or detract from His Word?

Where is the dumbfoundedness in His church over these things? Where is the sorrow over sin? Repent! For when our Lord returns, this time, there will be no place to flee to.
