The
Flaming Sword of Eden
Gen 3:24 So He drove out the man; and He placed
cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned
every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
Paradise lost! The only way back to the tree of life
is through the flaming sword and it “turns every way!” Sounds like God doesn’t want us trespassing in
His garden, or getting near that tree of life! But nothing could be further
from the truth! The tree of life
represents eternal life and 1Ti 2:4 tells us that God, “desires all men to be
saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
No, this passage isn’t about keeping us out, it’s
about showing us the way in! And the only way in, the only access to eternal
life comes through the “flaming sword, and the flaming sword is the Word of
God.
Jer 23:29 reminds
us, "Is not My word like a fire?" says the LORD,” and Heb 4:12 says,
“For the Word of God is living and powerful , and sharper than any two-edged
sword.”
Saving faith comes via this flaming sword…..the Word of God, as it says in Ro 10:17, “So then faith comes
by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Oh, the power of the Word of God! Preserved for us
through the ages so that all men from Adam and Eve, to you and I can taste of
the tree of life! This Word speaks of Jesus as our only way to God, as Jesus
said in Joh 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to
the Father except through Me. Jesus embodies the Word as we are told in Joh 1:1 “In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Jesus and His Words are the key to tasting of the tree
of life! And what you do with Him, what you do with that “flaming sword” will
determine your eternal destiny. Joh 12:48 "He who rejects Me, and does not
receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will
judge him in the last day.

life to you!
