# 670 Today's Du-votional comes from: Mr 13:21 "Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'Look, He is there!' do not believe it. 22 "For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 "But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.
Again, it is important to note that Jesus is speaking about the immediate future for His disciples, namely the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. The Roman historian Josephus reported that “these were such men as deceived and deluded the people under pretense of divine inspiration....and these prevailed with the multitude to act like madmen and went before them into the wilderness as pretending that God would show them the signals (the signs) of liberty.”
The Jews, in their desperation to rid themselves of the Roman yoke would be ripe to follow such messiahs, but the disciples and the true church were forewarned by Jesus to not fall for their claims. Their deliverance from the destruction of Jerusalem would be to follow His instructions to “flee to the mountains.”
Come to think of it, following His instructions is our only hope to escape our destruction as well. Mr 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
And do you want another reason to bow down and worship Jesus? How about the fact that He predicted these events just as they happened thirty plus years before they occurred.
Father, we are so quick to have our ears tickled by false teachers. Grant to us the discernment that we need to remain in the one true faith.
