Let's Not Settle For Mere Pointing

# 645 - Today's Du-votional comes from: Mr 12:32 So the scribe said to Him, "Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He. 33 "And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."
34 Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." But after that no one dared question Him.

Candles, vestments, rituals, liturgies, and anything else we might use in worship to help picture biblical truth can be very useful tools in focusing on Jesus. Just as the Old Testament system of burnt offerings and sacrifices were useful tools for focusing on the coming Messiah! But both systems can be abused.

We can get so caught up in order and symbols that we forget the main thing. The main thing is love. All churches have their own liturgy, but when our worship is all about form and we forget about love...we're in trouble. Beware of rote worship as if going to church once a week and taking in all the symbols is enough.

Our worship is to be a 24/7 love of God and love of others because .when all the dust settles, love stands. “Love never fails” (1 Cor 13:8)

Father thank You for symbols. They are very helpful in pointing us toward You. But let us not settle for mere pointing, let us embark on the journey of loving You with all our heart, and loving others as our self.
