# 402 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 6:14-16 “Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, "John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him." Others said, "It is Elijah." And others said, "It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets." But when Herod heard, he said, "This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!"
We get a little interlude here as the apostle's are out on the test run for the church militant. The Holy Spirit speaking through this Gospel, uses the interlude as an opportunity to fill us in on the details of the death of John the Baptist. That may seem a little odd, but I think it is included here for a very important reason.
The apostle's went out and had great success! They had come against the gates of hell and in the name of Jesus had shaken those very gates releasing many who had been held captive by the devil. This account of the death of John, is a stark reminder to the church that the enemy has great fury and will lash back whenever and wherever he can.
Be on guard church. Gird up your loins. As you experience success in the kingdom, you have a great enemy who will seek to retaliate. And always remember when the retaliation comes: He that is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (1 Jn 4:4)
