# 390 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 5:40-42. “And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, "Talitha, cumi," which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, arise." Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement.”
Jesus dismisses the professional mourners, friends and family, and tenderly invites the parents to witness the pending miracle. Then, He gently grasps the girl by the hand and commands her to arise. Look how death must respond to the will of Christ. “Immediately!”
Then, she not only got up, but began to walk around showing no ill effects of her illness. It's reminiscent of the time He healed Peter's mother-in-law of the fever and she immediately began serving them with no lingering effects!
The parents were overcome with amazement. The word in the Greek carries the idea that they were overcome with ecstasy. Who wouldn't be? Their daughter who was dead, now is alive!
Oh the ecstasy that awaits all followers of Christ, when the trumpet sounds on the Last Day and he calls our wasted bodies from the graves to join our souls in heaven! Not only raised to eternal life, but no lingering effects of what put us in the grave in the first place! And we will all be immediately engaged in the perfectly blissful activities of heaven.
