The Deadly Trap

# 393 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 6:2b,3 “And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, "Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! "Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" And they were offended at Him.”

Jesus has come back to His home town of Nazareth. Some try to paint Jesus as a miracle working adolescent growing up in Nazareth, but these comments by His fellow townspeople should put an end to such speculation. All the Bible says about His formative years in Nazareth is found in Luke 2:52, “He “increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.”

The townspeople view Jesus as an ordinary native son, who has been given some sort of mysterious power and wisdom. They choose to regard Him only as the carpenter, who's extended family grew up in Nazareth and some of whom still resided there, and “they were offended at Him.”

This is a telling statement. The word “offended,” means “deadly trap,” They were “deadly trapped,” at Him. Let that sink in for a while. Because what is being said here is vital for all!

To view Jesus only as a mere man or wise teacher or the “good friend” you grew up with is an eternally deadly trap. He is God! And no one can come to the Father except through Him. (Jn 14:6) Beware the deadly trap! Bow your knee the the King of kings and Lord of Lords today!

I'm Duane Matz and that's Today's Living Word.
