# 396 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 6:7 “And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.”
It's interesting to see the word, “began,” here. If this sending out of the twelve were a “one time” event, there would be no reason to include that word here. “He sent them out two by two,” would be sufficient. But this “sending out,” was the beginning of something.
It was the beginning of the church militant.
It began here as a test run if you will, with the twelve Apostles, (symbolic of the church) being given full power and authority over the devil and his demons. This power would be such that the gates of hell would not be able to prevail against the church. The church began here to be militantly active against the gates of hell by going out into the world with the full authority and backing of Jesus.
It began here, and was kicked into full gear at His ascension. “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Mt 28:18-20)
Well, what are we waiting for? It began here and ends at the end of the age. It ends when our Lord returns. Let's get on with it!
