Choking Out Spiritual Life

# 339 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 4:18,19 "Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

This is very important stuff my friend. We need to understand what these things are that can literally choke the spiritual life right out of us! Peter had this to say about the Words of Christ, “ You have the words of eternal life.(Jn 6:68b) and the Psalmist said in Ps 119:50b “Your word has given me life.”

For this reason, let's not rush through these enemies of the Word, let's examine each and every one! Let's start with the “cares of this world.”

The cares of this world are those things that distract us. They divert our attention from the Word of God, and in so doing they choke the source of our spiritual life right out of us. They can even be good things, noble things, even the work of the kingdom!

Don't underestimate the power you receive from spending quality time in the Word of God. Hebrews 4:12 says that the Word of God “is living and powerful,” believe it! You need that life that power to produce life and power and spiritual fruit in the kingdom.

One of the reasons you cultivate a garden or a field is to remove the weeds and work up the soil so it is able to receive more nutrients. This is what quality time in God's Word will do for you.

Jer 23:29 says, "Is not My word like a fire?" says the LORD, "And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

Just living in this world brings cares, brings diversions. Many times these diversions require our attention. But never let them supplant time spent with Mary (of Mary and Martha fame) at the Lord's feet, in His Word

It is a sad truth that many today have come to regard daily devotion and prayer as a diversion. Oh, let it not be so in your life! You need the power of His Word to bear fruit!

I'm Duane Matz and that's Today's Living Word.
