The Parable of the Privy

# 439 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 7:18,19 “So He said to them, "Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, "because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?"

This is biology 101. Jesus uses the common privy to make a point. And we could call this the “parable of the privy.” The King James speaks very clearly about these physical substances which enter our bodies when it says in verse 19, “Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, (which is basically the Greek word for outhouse.) purging all meats.”

If sin entered us through physical means repentance would be a daily natural function. A simple trip to the privy would take care of it. Oh if sin could only be removed that easily! Yet it is removed that easy! Even easier. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The word “cleanse” here is the same word Jesus used for “purging.”

He who has ears to hear let him hear! In the parable of the privy, learn the importance of daily confession in eliminating the harmful waste of sin in your life. To neglect this spiritual function is to invite spiritual plumbing problems into your life. Where's the joy in that?
