# 368 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 5:10-13 “Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country.
Legion tries to cut another deal with Jesus. The thought of such an attempt is laughable. Usually, when one tries to cut a deal with someone they have something to bargain with. The devil and his demons have no such thing. Jesus is God. He is superior to them in every way, and they must instantaneously obey Him.
Sometimes when we read of these encounters between God and the devil, (as in the case of Job for instance,) we get a sense that the devil is manipulating God, but hold on. Read the rest of the story. Stick around for the ending. How did the Book of Job end? Who's purposes were served in the end?
Even in this encounter, we shall see that God's purposes are served. But learn from this encounter. It is in the devil's nature to try and cut a deal. He'll do the same with you and I. He's always looking for an angle, always looking for a way to cause us to compromise our faith.
Before you give in to such temptation, remember what Jesus had to say about the devil. “there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” (Jn 8:44) Would you cut a large financial deal with a businessman who was a known liar? If we are that careful with our finances, should we not be even more careful with our soul?
