Jesus As Found In the Mustard Seed

# 349 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 4:30-32, Then He said, "To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? "It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; "but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade."

Jesus has been talking about seeds, and now He is looking for a type of seed that would serve as an illustration of the kingdom of God.

But what is the kingdom of God? It's all that emanates from Christ. It is the sum total of all the gifts of God found in Christ Jesus. It is helpful in understanding this parable, to liken Jesus to the mustard seed.

Note that this is not a wild mustard seed. It was purposely sown. The word “herbs” here means “vegetables,” This seed then was planted in a garden. The garden of course would be the earth, the world, and God the Father is the sower.

This tiniest of seeds was planted in the womb of Mary, and came forth in the insignificant little town of Bethlehem, and has now grown to overshadow the entire world.

This is the way of the kingdom of God is meant to be in you and I as well, it starts out with the tiniest seed of God-given faith planted in a humble heart, and then grows to overshadow our entire being as we grow in God's grace.

I'm Duane Matz and that's Today's Living Word.
