# 720 Today's Du-votional comes from: Mr 14:62 Jesus said, "I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."
In Matthew's account of this incident we learn that Jesus was put under oath. To quote Caiaphas, “I adjure You by the living God, tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
First of all note that Jesus in His humanness, submits to these authorities. Even though they were abusing their authority, He submits! Now there's and example we could all learn from!
Ro 13:1 says, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.”
That means that Governor Scott Walker was appointed by God. President Obama. also, appointed by God! Both men in position of authority. Both men appointed by God!
In our form of government in the United States, God has given us means to deal with any form of unjust government, and we certainly should use them, just as Paul used legal channels for his appeal, but open rebellion is out of the question, unless the government makes us choose between obeying them rather than God.
It is equally important for those in office to remember that any abuse of their God-given authority will be dealt with by the One who put them in office in the first place.
To constituents I say, submit. To office holders I say, stop fearing the electorate, stop pandering to the lobbyists, rather fear God, and pander to Him. Govern justly!
Just imagine if every officeholder in the land would grasp this and start to govern as if having to answer to God rather than men!
Father, let us learn to be submissive and grant us rulers who rule justly.
