God Is In Control

# 714 Today's Du-votional comes from: Mr 14:53,54, “And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and with him were assembled all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes. 54 But Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire..

Both Mark and Matthew skip the preliminary judicial examination by Annas and pick up the action with the main trial before the Sanhedrin. By the way, it was illegal for such a trial to be held in this hour, but by now this group was not going to be stopped by mere legal complications. This was the opportunity that they have been waiting for and this matter would be better dealt with in the middle of the night.

All the disciples had fled after the incident in the Garden, but Peter and John had second thoughts and turned around and followed Jesus. According to John's Gospel, John was actually allowed into the proceedings because of his connections with the high priest, Peter, on the other hand had to wait outside with the servants.

All of this is recorded for us that we might know that God is in control of the situation. Think about it. An unheard of night-time trial, and the presence of Peter in the courtyard, (giving him the opportunity to deny Jesus) all unfolding in response to God's prophetic Word. The timing of Jesus death, and even the denial, by Peter is happening just as God said it would.

Thank You again Father, for Your sure prophetic Word, and the reminder again of Your Sovereignty.
