The Depravity of Man

# 723 Today's Du-votional comes from: Mr 14:65 Then some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, "Prophesy!" And the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands.

These were religious men! Men who professed a belief in God! They were highly esteemed and held positions of respect, and in a matter of mere seconds, they turn into savages. Do you understand how near this kind of savagery is to you and I? Do you really understand what we are capable of without the restraint of God?

We read the paper and see it on the news all the time, and we ask, “How can someone do these things to another human being?” Well, without the restraint of God, we are just as capable of such savagery.

Jer 17:9 says, "The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?”

Thank God for His grace in your life, for without His divine influence, we would all be living like the children in Lord of the Flies.

'Read Romans 1:18-32, and see what happens when God pulls back on His mercy and grace. Three times in these passages from Romans, we read that “God gave them up,” In other words He backed off with His mercy and grace and let them reap the fruit of living without it.

What a chilling thought! What a scary scenario! One that appears to be playing out more and more in our land today. Like I said, just read the newspaper. It isn't very pretty is it? Well, neither was this savage treatment of Jesus.

But we are all capable of it! Know this. Respect this. And at all costs, guard your relationship with Jesus. Ever thankful for His presence and grace in your life.

Father, than You for Your protection, thank You for Your restraint of evil.
