More Lessons From the Birds

Job 39:13 "The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, But are her wings and pinions like the kindly stork's? 14 For she leaves her eggs on the ground, And warms them in the dust; 15 She forgets that a foot may crush them, Or that a wild beast may break them. 16 She treats her young harshly, as though they were not hers; Her labor is in vain, without concern, 17 Because God deprived her of wisdom, And did not endow her with understanding. 18 When she lifts herself on high, She scorns the horse and its rider.

I found this rather ironic, that the stork (the oft used personification of baby delivery) is mentioned here and placed alongside the “wisdomless” ostrich. The stork referred to as “kindly,” the ostrich, not so much!

Her attitude toward her young is similar to that of the “pro choice” crowd. She “treats her young harshly as though they were not hers” (In other words a lack of maternal concern) God says here that such a person is devoid of wisdom, and by now, we should know where true wisdom is birthed. Pr 9:10 says,  "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Perhaps you have played the role of the ostrich and participated in the act of abortion. Perhaps fear of your circumstances trumped your fear of the Lord, and you chose to end the life of your baby. Do not despair. A proper understanding of the Holy One will tell you that there is no sin that Jesus did not pay for on the cross.

You don’t have to live like the ostrich anymore. No need to stick your head in the sand over your guilt. Confess your sins! Receive God’s forgiveness and from this day forth seek to lead the life of the “kindly” stork. Be an advocate for the unborn Pr 24:11 Deliver those who are drawn toward death, And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.
