Today, we continue our series on Leviathan. This monster of the deep certainly existed and Job was fully aware of what God was talking about. This fearful creature was used in Scripture to portray the devil in terms we humans can understand.
In verse 22 of chapter 41, God makes a statement about
Leviathan that ought to catch our attention. He says, “sorrow dances before
him.” Sorrow is one of the calling cards of Satan. Just think of the sorrow
that he brought into the life of Job! He lost everything he had, including his children
and his health. Where sorrow is, the devil is nearby for as Jesus described him
in Joh 8:44 "He was a murderer
from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth
in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a
liar and the father of it.”
What a stark contrast between the devil and Jesus.
Jesus wept when He met up with sorrow. (the death of His friend Lazarus and the
impending destruction of Jerusalem are two examples that come to mind) The devil
on the other hand views sorrow as entertainment. It “dances before him.”
Be aware of this difference and be comforted knowing
that your tears of sorrow are dully noted by God and precious in His sight! Ps
56:8 tells us: “You (God) number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your
bottle; Are they not in Your book? 9 When I cry out to You, Then my enemies
will turn back; This I know, because God is for me.”
Sorrow will come to all of us, and when it dances into
our lives, God has a remedy. It’s called tears! Let them flow. Holy tears serve
as prayers to the Almighty. He sees, He hears, He responds. He will turn your
sorrows into something good because He is for you. In the
matter of sorrow, which God may allow the devil to bring into our life, He says
in Ps 30:5, “Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”
