When the Bully Won't Budge

# 544 - Today's Du-votional comes from: Mr 9:28,29. “And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?"
So He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting."

I can see myself asking the same question of Jesus. ”Where did we go wrong Jesus?” And Jesus gently and privately instructs them.

In Matthews account of this incident Jesus also addresses the matter of their lack of faith as being an obstacle. (Mt 17:20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.")

First lesson here for us is that prayer and faith are closely linked. When the bully (the devil) won't budge, (the immovable mountain), you don't roll up your shirtsleeves and take him on yourself. You call on your Big Brother Jesus, confident in His power to take care of the bully. This is called the prayer of faith. It is asking specifically for your Big Brother to come to your aid, believing that He is able and willing to come.

Tapping into just a mustard seeds worth of the power of Jesus through prayer is enough to dispense of this bully, anytime and anyplace.

Thank You Father for our Big Brother Jesus. I pray that He will come to the aid of those being bullied around by the devil today.
