Tap Into His Compassion
# 539 - Today's Du-votional comes from: Mr 9:22, "And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us."
The father continues to explain the situation. This demon has often sought to destroy his son by casting him into fire and water. This is no doubt the work of the devil who seeks to destroy as we read in Joh 10:10. "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
This is definitely a job for Jesus, for only He is able to bind the devil. The father's faith has wavered in light of the fact that the nine followers of Jesus were not able to cast out the demon, but he still has enough faith to pray. Listen to his prayer and may it be instructive for you and I as we pray in our hour of need.
“ But God, if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
All the man is asking for is compassion, a prayer that will always perk up the ears of God because it touches on a main part of His character..
Jas 5:11 says, “Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord--that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.
The Lord is compassionate, ask His help! His answer may not be what we want, but it will always be what we need, and that's the heart of compassion.
Father, thank You for Your compassion. Thank You that I can be assured that You hear my cries for help in my times of need, and thank You that Your answer will always be perfect.
