Wrestling With A Call?

# 259 Today’s Living Word comes from Mark 2:13,14 “Then He went out again by the sea; and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me." So he arose and followed Him.”

Jesus leaves the cramped quarters of the house with the “new skylight” and finds a more open area in which to teach the multitudes. On His way back to where He was staying in Capernaum, He sees Matthew (Levi) at work in the customs office and beckons him to leave his lucrative profession and follow Him.

Notice Matthew’s immediate response. “He arose and followed him.” Matthew was well-educated, well-connected, and likely very well off, yet when he heard the Master’s call, he quietly turned his duties over to others and walked away from it all.

Matthew probably had wrestled with such a decision for some time, and at just the right time, Jesus “just happens” to walk past his office and call him. Are you wrestling with a call? Jesus knows.

Wait.

If it’s of Him, He’ll be by your office soon enough, and when He drops by to beckon, you will be just as strongly compelled as Matthew was to “arise and follow Him.

I’m Duane Matz and that’s today’s Living Word.
