# 255 Today’s Living Word comes from Mark 2:5-7 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you." And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
Did you notice? There is a new element in the crowd. “Some of the scribes” were there. In Luke’s account of this incident he also mentions Pharisees. Evidently the word of Jesus’ miracles had gotten back to Jerusalem and the religious authorities dispatched some representatives to check Him out. This was a good thing to do. As religious leaders they didn’t want their sheep to be taken in by some charlatan.
I suppose they were expecting Him to immediately heal the paralytic, but instead, it appears to them that He blasphemes God! They rightly reason that only God can forgive sins and if Jesus were a mere man, this indeed would be blasphemy.
But He’s not, and you and I have more evidence of that fact than theses scribes and Pharisees had. As the Holy Spirit stated in Romans 1:3,4 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,
and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
The empty tomb proves that Jesus is the Son of God WITH POWER! He HAS the power to forgive our sins, and the power to meet our every need. Come to Him in your weakness today.
I’m Duane Matz and that’s today’s Living Word.
