Thou Shalt Not Murmur!

# 262 Today’s Living Word comes from Mark 2:18. “The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, "Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?"

We don’t know what prompted this question, perhaps John’s disciples had noticed Jesus and His crew leaving the party that Matthew had just thrown and they were just making an observation. They had never seen Jesus’ disciples engage in the practice of fasting and they just wanted to know why?

Note their attitude and their procedure. First of all they came right to Jesus, they didn’t murmur behind His back! They went right to the source and their tone was so much different than the Pharisees. They weren’t challenging or judging, they simply wanted to hear the explanation. We could learn from that today couldn’t we?

Think of all the differences in the Body of Christ today. Think of how we typically address those differences. Instead of murmuring behind the back, why not learn to go to the source and seek to understand the differences. Hey, we might actually learn something! Romans 12:18 says, “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.”

I’m Duane Matz and that’s today’s Living Word.
