Job 5:9 Who does great things, and
unsearchable, Marvelous things without number.
Eliphaz continues speaking to Job and he begins to
tell some of the things he knows about God. These things are spot on in
accordance with what the Scriptures tell us about God: Eliphaz says, “God does
great things, and unsearchable, Marvelous things without number.
Wait a minute! Who told Eliphaz these things? The
Psalms have not yet been written, yet they affirm the same thing!
Ps 40:5 Many, O LORD my God, are Your
wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be
recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more
than can be numbered.
Ps
72:18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous
things!
Ps 145:3
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable.
It could only be the Holy Spirit. He put those words
and that knowledge into the heart of Eliphaz. He spoke and the Holy Spirit
moved the writer of this book to put those words in permanent ink for you and
I.
Let’s first of all run with this knowledge! The
God we worship is “great!” His thoughts toward you and I are “without number!”
He does “wondrous things!” And His greatness is “unsearchable!” (We may think
we have an idea of how great He is, but we have just scratched the surface!)
Let us therefore bow down and worship God with praise and thanksgiving!
Secondly, let’s take comfort from the truth of 2Ti
3:16 which is on display here in the declarations of Eliphaz! “All Scripture
is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness,”
The Bible! Every word of it inspired by God and kept
for us through the ages. From these Holy Spirit inspired words of Eliphaz, to
the corresponding words of the Psalmist, the prophets and more! That in itself
is a marvelous, unsearchable wonder of God toward you and I.
