# 109 Let Us Break Bread Together

# 109 Let Us Break Bread Together

Joh 6:5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?"

6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.

7 Philip answered Him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little."

Jesus already knew what He was going to do with these 5,000 plus souls. He was going to feed them and demonstrate to them where the true bread comes from. But perhaps there are other lessons for us here as well. As we look at the other accounts of the feeding of the 5000 we know that it has been a trying time for jesus and His crew. .

The disciples had just returned from their mini mission, where they had preached repentance, cast out many demons, and healed many who were sick. They were likely very anxious to share their stories with Jesus. Jesus Himself, had just learned the news that John the Baptist had been beheaded, and now they found themselves in a place where throngs of people were pressing in with more humanitarian demands. Jesus and His disciples didn’t even have time to eat! So they departed to a deserted place, but the people followed them, actually beating them to the spot.

In spite of all this, Jesus was moved with compassion for these people because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So He healed them, and He taught them, and now He would feed them!

His disciples thought it would be better to dismiss the crowd, but Jesus would have none of that. He made it clear the crowd was welcome to stay for supper….all 5000 plus of them!

I think there is a lesson concerning fellowship in the church for us here. The church is to be a place of healing and teaching, but it also must be a place of fellowship. We are not to heal, teach, and send people on their merry way! We are to break bread with one another.

Don’t blow this off! Make it a point to connect with each other, outside the walls of the church. I know you’re busy! I’m busy! But are we any busier than the Lord and His disciples were on this day? I don’t think so! Make time for one another, break bread with one another. I’m told that the world will know that you are disciples of jesus if you show love for one another! (Jn 13:35)
