# 163 Nothing To Laugh About

The Book of Genesis

Day 163

Ge 19:12 Then the men said to Lot, "Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city-take them out of this place! 13 "For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it." 14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, "Get up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city!" But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.

One of the most difficult things in the world to do is convince others of Judgment Day.  With man, this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. It is our job to warn people of this Day and to point them to Jesus, the only way of escape! The convincing part is on the Holy Spirit.  Speaking of the Holy Spirit in Joh 16:8, Jesus said,  "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

After seeing these angels in action, Lot was certainly convinced that Sodom had but a short time before they would destroy the city. They tell him to warn as many people as he can think of: sons in law, sons, daughters…..whomever. Their instructions to Lot are applicable to us today as well. Warn as many people as you can think of!

Lot tries to warn the men who were betrothed to his daughters, and they laugh him off. This will likely happen to you and I as we set about warning others. But remind them that Lot’s son in laws laughed too and look what happened according to Jesus in Lu 17:28-30 "Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;  29 "but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.  30 "Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

The lesson is simple, laugh it off to your own harm!

Thankfully, there is still time. 2Pe 3:9,10 reminds us: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.  10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” (Hmmmm sounds a lot like Sodom and Gomorrah doesn’t it?)

Maybe you have come upon this devotional by chance. Consider it like you would a tornado warning. A tornado watch means that conditions are ripe for a tornado, a warning means that it is on the way. Friend….Judgment Day is on the way! Jesus said in Mt 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.Guess what? The Gospel has pretty much been declared worldwide! The end IS near! I beg you to flee from your association with sin as Lot did, and put your hand in the hand of God. Turn to Jesus and let Him lead you out of the city of destruction and into heaven!

Pray: Father, help us to be faithful in warning those in our world of the impending Judgment, and by our words and examples, help us to point to the only way of escape…..Jesus.
