# 154 Some Sins Are Graver Than Others

The Book of Genesis Day 154 Ge 18:20 And the LORD said, "Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, 21 "I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know." 22 Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, So, what were these sins that cried to the very heavens for relief? We’ll get a specific example later on in Genesis when the angels visit Lot’s house, but the general sins of Sodom and Gomorrah are mentioned in Jude 1:7, and Ezek 16:49. In Jude 1:7 we read, “as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.” And in Eze 16:49 "Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.” Sin is sin, and all sin, grave or not, separates us from God and must be put under the blood of Jesus, but some sins are graver than others, and it’s time we admitted it! These sins of Sodom and Gomorrah cried out to God for punitive action! And that should make us take special note of them! Sexual immorality tops the list in Jude, and this includes all sexual activity outside the bounds of marriage. “Going after strange flesh,” is next, and that would include all unnatural sexual activity including homosexuality. Pride tops the list in Ezekiel, and that is followed by a failure to help the poor and needy! These are grave sins church, and we need to stop pretending they are not! So what do we do about them? Well, we confess them, and repent of them, and we turn to Jesus. Let us be identified by our relationship with Jesus and not by our sins, as Sodom and Gomorrah were. Allow me to give you another list of sins that are so grave that they disqualify souls from heaven and set them up for the same end that Sodom and Gomorrah experienced. They are found in 1Co 6:9,10 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. Pretty grim list isn’t it? BUT there is hope, and it’s found in the very next verse! 11 “And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” You don’t have to be identified by those sins! Turn to Jesus! Receive Him and be spared the Judgment to come! Pray: Lord, I am a sinner in need of Your forgiveness. Thank You for forgiving me, and helping me to turn away from these grave sins! Grant me godly sorrow and Your forgiveness for those times that I stray.
