# 44 Nothing But the Blood Of Jesus
The Book of Genesis
Day 44
Ge 3:21 Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
Adam and Eve, with their flimsy little wilting fig leaves are in need of a greater covering for their sin, and God provides it! I wonder how many times this story is read and the importance of the material of these God-provided coverings is missed? “God made tunics of skin,” Where did He get them from? Some animal had to die. Blood had to be shed, and we get the first glimpse of what it will take to “cover” (forgive) sins.
Throughout the Old Testament we read of the importance of blood and how it relates to God’s covenant of forgiveness. When Abraham covenanted with God, a heifer, a goat, and a ram were sacrificed. When Moses had spoken the commandments to the people, he took the blood of calves and goats and sprinkled the book and the people themselves saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” (Ex 24:8) According to the Law, all sins are cleansed with blood! Heb 9:22 says, “ And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission”.
Then of course we have the ultimate shedding of blood of Christ in the New Testament. Heb 9:12-14 says, “Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
With this simple act of providing blood bought clothing for Adam and Eve, they are assured that God has forgiven their sins. They can walk away with clear consciences, free to serve the living God, as they have been purged from their dead works (sins)
The offer is extended to you and I even today. Christ shed His blood for your sins, allow God to dress you and your children in His skin! Put on His robe of righteousness, (Jesus Christ) and be saved!
The Bible says in Ga 3:27, “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” And, in Mr 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
Reflect:
Do you have a favorite piece of clothing you wear that has seen its better days?
Have you any clothing made of leather?
Even leather eventually wears out. Adam and Eve’s garments were temporary as were all the Old Testament sacrifices. In light of that fact, how is the sacrifice of Jesus different?
God provided coverings for Adam and Eve, according to Gal 3:27, how does He provide covering for us?
Pray: Father, thank You for the reminder that our sins are not covered by anything we do, all our righteousnesses (good works) are as flimsy, wilting, fig leaves and won’t stand on the Last Day! Thank You for the everlasting covering of our sins given to us through Jesus Christ. Amen
