# 43 That Gal Who Got Us Kicked Out Of the Garden

The Book of Genesis Day 43 Ge 3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Adam was good at naming things. If you recall, God had entrusted him with naming all the animals, and Adam had initially named Eve “woman,” because she was taken out of man. (Gen 2:23) Now, after the Fall, Adam gives her a more specific name…..”Eve” which is Hebrew for “life,” or “living.” Obviously Adam had picked up on what God had said to the serpent and the Woman, and came up with the idea of naming her “Eve” or “life!” This name was very fitting for her in her role as childbearer, and you can sense the future hope that Adam places in her through the promised Seed (Capital S, Jesus) who would be the ultimate giver of eternal life! In giving her a new name, we are reminded again that “naming” something in God’s creation indicates lordship over that which is named, and this backs up what was just said in verse 16, “, “And he shall rule over you." Now before any of you guys decide to gloat over this role, I want you to consider how Adam named Eve. He didn’t call her “The Woman Who Ruined Everything,” or “The Gal Who Got Us Kicked Out Of The Garden,” No, when the dust had settled after the initial confrontation with God, he called her “life” or “living.” Out of her would come the Seed that would crush the real troublemaker….the serpent. The title “Eve” is one of great honor, and men we must learn from this as well. 1Pe 3:7 says, “Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.” The idea of the “weaker vessel” here is the vessel that is precious! No room for strong arm tactics in that description! Rather, men ought to be like Adam who clearly regarded Eve with love, tenderness, and awe! Ought we not do the same? Reflect: Adam was good at naming things, what are you good at? Have you any nicknames? How did you come by your nickname? Was there any negativity in Adam naming Eve? What kind of responsibilities come with lordship? Pray: Father, thank You for this example given to us by Adam. Help us to seek ways to love and tenderly treat those you have entrusted to us. Amen
