Herod Might As Well Have Been At A Strip Club

# 408 - Today's living Word comes from Mr 6:21-23, “Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee. And when Herodias' daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you." He also swore to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom."

“An opportune day came,” chilling words. Herodius was so angry at John that she patiently waited for her opportunity to do him in. It turns out, this was the day.

Understand this about the devil. He is very angry at God and if you are a child of God, he is very angry with you and he too will wait for opportune moments to get you to fall.

There are fewer opportunities well suited to cause someone to fall then free flowing wine, and uninhibited displays of eroticism. Herod might as well have been at a strip club. Caught up in the moment he makes a foolish oath and signs the death warrant of John the Baptist.

The next time an opportune moment to sin presents itself in your life, remember your sin not only has consequences for you, but also for others. Then by the grace of God submit yourself to God. James 4:7 says, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
