He Took His Own Sweet Perfect Time

# 425 - Today's Living Word comes from Mr 6:47,48 Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.

What time did Jesus come to His disciples? “About the fourth watch.” So, when is that? Well, the first watch is from 6 to 9 p.m., the second from 9 to midnight, the third from midnight to 3, and the fourth watch from 3 to 6a.m. Let's do the math.

The disciples began their trip across the lake in the first watch and were virtually stuck as they could make no progress against the wind and the waves. They have been in the water for about 7 hours and the idea of “straining against the oars” is that of being “put to the test by torture.” These guys were physically exhausted!

Jesus, in His omniscience, knew they were in trouble, in His omnipotence, He defied gravity and walked on the water, yet He walked. He didn't transport Himself supernaturally. He walked. He took His own sweet perfect amount of time. And even though His disciples couldn't see Him take that first step on the water, help was on the way.

Are you going through a tortuous time in your life right now? Don't give up, keep straining at the oars knowing that Jesus is on the way. He sees your situation. He knows what you need and He will arrive on time.
