Good day, I’m Duane Matz
and welcome to Today’s Living Word.
Mt 22:1 And Jesus
answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: 2 "The kingdom of
heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3 "and
sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they
were not willing to come. 4 "Again, he sent out other servants, saying,
'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and
fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding."'
5 "But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm,
another to his business.
Continuing today with the
parable of the wedding feast. It is a parable for the last days and we would do
well to pay attention. The king (God) arranges a marriage (a union) for His Son
(Jesus) This marriage was arranged through the life, death, and resurrection of
Jesus.
He ascended into heaven
where He is preparing a mansion for His bride1 while He prepares, He sends out
His servants, (the apostles) with the invitation to the wedding feast (eternal
life with Jesus)
This is the great
commission! Mt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, 20 "teaching them to
observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age." Amen.
Note the response of those
who are initially invited. (The Jew first rejecting the invite because they
rejected Jesus as the Messiah, therefore they were not willing to come.)
More servants go out and
reach out to the Gentiles, who claim to have better things to do! Some make
light of the Gospel, (don’t take it seriously.) Still others reject the
invitation because they regard earthly things as more important. (Farms and
businesses to run…money to make rather than respond to the Kings gracious
invitation.
To think you are good
enough to just walk into this wedding feast at the end of days is to take the
message of the church lightly, and to be more interested in filling your barns
is short-sighted.
Jesus invites you NOW!
Learn from this parable and respond to the invitation with a YES! Place your
trust in Jesus for Mr 16:16 "He
who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be
condemned.
I’m Duane Matz and that’s
Today’s Living Word.
