# 50 Should Not Be Swatted

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

We have arrived at what is probably the most quoted passage in all of Scripture. We have seen it at virtually every major sporting event as people in the stands wave placards trying to get the camera’s attention, hoping that a viewer might see John 3:16, and look it up!

Of course, the stands are empty now, but when the sporting events kick in again, how about starting out by letting that one person in with the Jn 3:16 placard! Lord knows it’s what this country needs more than anything!

One of the things that makes this verse so special is it gives us glimpses of God’s character that many have missed. Many have this idea of a God who waits in heaven to swat people every time they make a mistake! That’s why Pharisees like Nicodemus had all these silly laws, trying to safeguard themselves from being swatted!

But this passage paints an entirely different picture. This passage says that God loves and gives to the utmost! So much love that He gave His only begotten Son to die on the cross, to pay the wages of sin that we all deserve! He desires for men not to be swatted, but have everlasting life and fellowship with Him!

He didn’t send Jesus into this world to swat sinners, but rather to save them from being swatted.

Oh, and don’t miss the “whosoever!” The door of salvation is open to all who put their faith in this love of God!  All who receive the gift of Jesus as their Lord and Savior!
