The Book of Genesis
Day 272
Ge 29:31 When the
LORD saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.
Today, I want to
look at the soft spot in the heart of God for the unloved. The Hebrew word for
“unloved” here is “sane,” (sah’ nay) and it expresses the ill will and aversion
between people. It could be ill will between spouses, brothers and sisters,
parents and children, neighbors, or even nations. It is the desire to have no contact or relationship with
another.
Can you grasp the
feeling of rejection one can experience when they are on the receiving end of
“sane?” (sah nay) When one spouse says to another, “I don’t love you anymore.”
Or when a parent abandons a child, or when neighbors turn a cold shoulder to
each other, or when someone is avoided simply because they don’t fit in with
the social norm, or when nations cut off diplomatic relations. We are talking
about flat out rejection here!
This verse in
Genesis tells us something about God. He has a soft spot in His heart for those
who have been rejected. God’s own Son
was “despised and rejected by men.” (Isa 53:3) He understands it. He
experienced it, and He has compassion on those who are similarly despised. He says in Isa 60:15,16, "Whereas you have been forsaken and
hated, So that no one went through you, I will make you an eternal excellence,
A joy of many generations. 16 You shall
drink the milk of the Gentiles, And milk the breast of kings; You shall know
that I, the LORD, am your Savior And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Are you feeling
rejected today? Has someone close to you turned you away or put you off? Turn
to the One who understands, the One who has been there, done that. Jesus has a
soft spot just for you and He says, “The one who comes to Me I will by no means
cast out.” He longs to turn your temporary rejection into “eternal excellence.”
Do not despair!
Though the whole world may “sane” (sah nay) you, Jesus will never forsake you!
