# 269 The Consummation!

The Book of Genesis

Day 269

Ge 29:21 Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her." 22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast. 23 Now it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her.

The dowry has been paid! Jacob has worked for Laban for seven years and now the long awaited wedding night. A beautiful wedding custom practiced by the Hebrews to foreshadow the Great Consummation of the church when our Groom the Lord Jesus Christ returns!  This foreshadowing is an important part of why God commands sexual purity until the wedding night!

Note too, the feast! It is meant to be a picture of the Feast of the Church, which we call “Holy Communion,” or the Lord’s Supper.” This “feast” is observed and practiced by all Christians. It is a meal that all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ share until His promised return and the ultimate “Consummation!”

It was instituted by Jesus Himself on the night in which He was betrayed:

Mt 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body."  27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you.  28 "For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.  29 "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."

The Holy Spirit speaking through the Apostle Paul recorded these words about “The Feast.”
1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;  24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."  25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."  26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.

In this feast we both proclaim what Jesus has accomplished for us on the cross, and we are reminded that He will come again for the consummation of His bride….the church! The feast precedes the consummation! That Great Day in which we will forever be united with Jesus!

If you are not attending worship services, or have not become a member of a local congregation, or a home church,  I urge you to earnestly and prayerfully seek one out so that you will be a part of this great anticipatory feast of the church!
I remember fondly the singing of the liturgy on the Sundays we celebrated the Lord’s Supper, especially the Feast of Victory! It goes like this:
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God.
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Power, riches and wisdom and strength, and honor and blessing and glory are his.
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Sing with all the people of God and join in the hymn of all creation.
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Blessing and honor and glory and might be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen.
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia.
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Every time we sang it, I felt like I was being ushered into heaven via the Book of Revelation!  Be in holy awe as you approach the table, but leave with great joy, knowing your sins have been paid for and you can look forward to the grooms return!
