We Win!

Good day! I’m Duane Matz and this is Today’s Living Word:

Isa 14:28 This is the burden which came in the year that King Ahaz died. 29 "Do not rejoice, all you of Philistia, Because the rod that struck you is broken; For out of the serpent's roots will come forth a viper, And its offspring will be a fiery flying serpent. 30 The firstborn of the poor will feed, And the needy will lie down in safety; I will kill your roots with famine, And it will slay your remnant. 31 Wail, O gate! Cry, O city! All you of Philistia are dissolved; For smoke will come from the north, And no one will be alone in his appointed times." 32 What will they answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD has founded Zion, And the poor of His people shall take refuge in it.

With the death of the ungodly king Ahaz, Philistia will now get their comeuppance. The rod that had struck them (Judah) was broken for a time under King Ahaz, but God would now raise up a godly king (Hezekiah) and the people under Hezekiah will once again be blessed with sustenance and safety. (The firstborn of the poor will feed, And the needy will lie down in safety)

Not so for Philistia. Famine will come upon the land. War will come from the north, through the well organized and swarming Assyrian army, and the proud nation of Philistia will be dissolved.

Death will come to the land. Safety in numbers will not matter (no one will be alone in his appointed times) and what will be the answer to the demise of Philistia? How could this happen to a nation with such fortified cities? And the answer is God has founded Zion (dare we say the church!) and the humble will receive refuge in it. The church of Jesus Christ! The forever refuge of the humble.

Take heart from this judgement against Philistia because though evil may seem to be winning in our world today, in the end God dissolves all evil and the church wins!

Jesus made that same promise when He was speaking to Peter in Mt 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock (on Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God) I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

I’m Duane Matz and that’s Today’s Living Word.
