The Book of Genesis
Day 373
Ge 41:14 Then
Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the
dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh. 15 And
Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have had a dream, and there is no one who can
interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream,
to interpret it." 16 So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, "It is not
in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace."
Joseph rightly
gives credit to God for his gift of interpreting dreams. He knows that any
attempt of his to interpret the dream apart from God is nothing more than his
opinion on the matter, and the opinions of men have never brought lasting peace
to anyone! He tells Pharaoh, “
Last time, we
talked about the condition of Pharaoh after his disturbing dream. His spirit was troubled, agitated, like a
continuous rapping of a pencil on a table. He was agitated because he didn’t
know the meaning of his dreams.
The condition of
the unbeliever is much the same. He does not know the true meaning of his life,
and his spirit is deeply troubled. And just as was the case with Pharaoh, so it
is with man, only God can give the human heart the answer of peace. This “roiling” of an unbelievers soul is not
always evident as they find counterfeit peace in many places, but when that
peace falls apart, they look to the next diversion to find temporary peace.
Pharaoh’s peace
was disturbed when God spoke to him in a dream.
When God’s Word is properly preached, it too should bring a lack of
peace to the unbeliever, but of course it must not stop there. God’s answer of
peace must also be presented to the unbelieving ears. Joseph was God’s messenger of peace to Pharaoh,
and Jesus is our messenger of peace from God. Jesus IS God’s answer of peace to
our agitated soul!
Yes, this Jesus
who stood up in a boat in the midst of a raging sea and rebuked the wind and
said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the roiling of the sea stopped, and
peace came.
This Jesus , who
said to His disciples, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you,” and,
“These things I have spoken to you that
in Me you may have peace.
It is Jesus who
gives us the “peace that passes all understanding.”
The human
soul is troubled when it realizes it is
not right with God, and that conviction comes by the Holy Spirit through the
Law of God, but Jesus comes with the Gospel of God to calm those troubled
waters and He says, “I can make it right with you and God, I died for your
sins, peace I give to you, receive it today and calm your troubled soul!
