# 113 Prophet, Priest, and King

The Book of Genesis Day 113 Ge 14:11 Then they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way. 12 They also took Lot, Abram's brother's son who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed. 13 Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner; and they were allies with Abram. 14 Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. 16 So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people. 17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley), after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him. 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said: "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of all. By the way, in verse 13, we have the first mention in Scripture of Abram as the one who makes the coffee! He Brews! (Sorry I couldn’t resist) And in verse 18, we have the first mention of the office of priest. In this mysterious King of Salem, (Melchizedek) we have one who is (1) King, (of Salem) (2) Priest, (of God Most High) and (3) Prophet! (As he pronounced a blessing on Abram from the God Most High! Do you know of Anyone else who is Prophet, King, and Priest? It doesn’t take much to associate this Melchizedek as a “type” of Jesus, and as such, we can learn much from this portion of Scripture. For now, let’s turn to another portion of Scripture, where the Holy Spirit leaves no room for doubt. He speaks of the coming Messiah in Ps 110 and makes the sure connection for us! Ps 110:1 <> The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool." 2 The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies! 3 Your people shall be volunteers In the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth. 4 The LORD has sworn And will not relent, "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek." 5 The Lord is at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. 6 He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall execute the heads of many countries. 7 He shall drink of the brook by the wayside; Therefore He shall lift up the head.” The Messiah, who would be the antitype, (the real deal) of the “order of Melchizedek,” and serve as the eternal Prophet, Priest, and King, now sits on the right hand of God the Father, and will remain there, carrying out His duties of Prophet, Priest, and King until the Father gives the Word to return and judge the earth. As the Apostles Creed puts it, “ He ascended into heaven, and is seated on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from where He shall come to judge the living and the dead.” This Psalm speaks of the ultimate and complete destruction of the enemies of God that will take place when Jesus returns. No middle ground here, and a good time to ask, “Where are you with Jesus? “ Are you in or out? Jesus says it plainly in Mt 12:30 "He who is not with Me is against Me,” and in Re 3:16 "So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Time is short, the table is set, Jesus could return at any moment! Let Him speak to you as Prophet in Mr 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Bow your knee to Him as King. Php 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, And allow Him to forgive your sins as He mediates peace (serves as a Priest) between you and God Most High, 1Ti 2:5 “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,” Pray to God that Jesus would be all three to You, it is one prayer the Father longs to hear, for He desires that all people would come to repentance! 2Pe 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” Pray: Father, I confess that I am a sinner, and I know that I cannot save myself. Jesus come to me as Prophet, Priest, and King and save my soul!
