# 46 Something to Consider Concerning the Beginning of Life

The Book of Genesis Day 46 Ge 4:1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have acquired a man “from the LORD." Where does the story of Cain begin? At conception! It is a sad commentary that many in the church today are unaware of this consistent message from Scripture: Life begins at conception and it is a gift from the Lord! We need to stop throwing it away! It’s easy to blame the abortion clinics for this holocaust. As of this writing nearly 60 million unborn children have lost their lives since the legalization of abortion in America in 1973. But it’s not just the abortion clinics! Some estimate that an additional 6 to 7 million children in America are aborted annually through pills and other devices that act by eliminating the fertilized egg! These kinds of numbers are numbing, and they contribute to our ever increasing apathy in this matter. We wonder why the abortion clinics are so busy in this land, but maybe we should take a closer look at our own view of life. Is it a gift from God or not? Ps 127:3 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” We rightly get bent out of shape about the very visible act of partial birth abortion procedure, but at the same time, 6 to 7 million times a year, a uniquely created gift from God is conceived and invisibly denied an opportunity to live! Many of these “invisible” abortions are taking place in the body of Christ through pills and devices that act as abortifacients! I know this is hard stuff, and I am not here to cast stones! Indeed, my wife and I fell for this “lie” early on in our marriage as well. I am here hopefully, to simply cast a lifesaving light. A light that acknowledges the consistent message found in the Bible. Life begins at conception! There are alternatives to birth control medications and devices that act as abortifacients. As Bible-believing Christians it is incumbent that we do the research! It’s a matter of life and death! Life is a gift from God! Let us thank Him for it, and from this day forth look at ways to nurture it, rather than, wittingly or unwittingly, destroying it. And if we have erred in this regard, let us confess it before God. Then let us receive the forgiveness so freely offered by still Another, who’s story also began at conception…….Jesus Christ. Reflect What’s the most difficult conversation you’ve ever had? How can sheer numbers numb? What are some alternatives to “birth control?” “Adam knew Eve” and in this knowing, there is always the possibility of God creating a new life? How does this knowledge play out in 1Co 7:3-5, “Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.” Pray: Father, thank You for the gift of life, help us to reclaim Your view of life and to learn to acknowledge You as the Lord and giver of life!
