A Sure Word of Prophecy
680- Today's Prime Time Devo comes from 2Sa 22:34 He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places.
Why would you want feet like a deer? Because they make for great sure-footed mountain climbing. It is this sure-footedness that allows them to move freely through rough terrain.
One of the interesting facts about the deer found in biblical lands is the way they climb mountains. When the deer goes up the side of a mountain, it uses its front foot to test for sure footing. When that foot finds sure footing, the back foot is placed in the exact same spot!. The young deer typically follow the mother up the slope placing their feet in the same spot.
The spiritual implications here are very evident. The Holy Spirit, using the Word of God is the front foot, leading the way of sure footing in life. Guiding us to the high places of safety and security.
2Pe 1:19 says, “We also have a more sure word of prophecy, to which you do well to take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Daystar arises in your hearts, “
Ps 33:4 in the Living translation says, “For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does.”
And so we (the back feet) follow the leading of the Holy Spirit trusting God's Word by believing it and applying it to our life. If we do this, He will keep us from falling. This same Word then is held up to our children that they might learn to follow it as well.
Ps 119:9 says, “ How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.”
God grant me the feet of the deer, and give me the faith to follow Your lead.
