His Mastery

Good day! I’m Duane Matz and this is Today’s Living Word:

Isa 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

Isaiah foretells of the descending of the Holy Spirit that rested on Jesus at His baptism. The Holy Spirit who proceeds from the throne of God brings 7 “aspects” with Him. Today we will talk about the fifth “aspect,”  that of “might.”

The idea of “might”  is that of one who masters. If there’s one thing that is superbly evident in the New Testament is the mastery of Jesus. His might was often on display in His mastery over the devil and his demons: Mr 1:27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him."

His mastery over nature: Mt 8:27 So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"

His mastery over earthly elements: “He turned water into wine. Later He would turn water into mere pavement and walk on it!

Even His mastery over death! Joh 11:43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!"

We may never walk on water like Peter, or see a miraculous calming of a storm, but as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, we will one day taste of His mastery over death. 1Th 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Let the might of Christ be your comfort and solace in all you may face today! He is able!
