The Book of Genesis
Day 364
Ge 39:3 And his
master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all he did to
prosper in his hand. 4 So Joseph found
favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and
all that he had he put under his authority.
On the corporate ladder in Potiphar’s house,
Joseph was one to watch. Everything he did prospered because the Lord was with
him! His master obviously noticed and moved Joseph up to the position of overseer of his house. Not bad for a lowly
slave!
In this rise to
the top, Joseph demonstrates a spiritual law. It was a law that Jesus would
later share with His disciples. We read about it in Mt 20:26 "Yet it shall
not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be
your servant. 27 "And whoever
desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—
Now, this is not a
one shot deal. Joseph didn’t arrive at Potiphar’s house, serve him one time,
and then get promoted. No! This type of servanthood is an attitude, a
lifestyle, and I think many shy away from it because they try serving others
for a short time, and if they aren’t soon rewarded, they walk away from it. We
must remember this is a process and since it is a spiritual law, any mastery,
any lordship, that is attained happens only because God has His hand in it
delivering on His faithful Word.
God simply gave
Joseph the opportunity to serve, and he seized it, not because he loved
Potiphar, but because he loved the Lord! So God blessed him.
As a born-again
believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord IS WITH YOU! He has given you
opportunities to serve. Look for them and seize them whenever you can! Eph 2:10
SAYS, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
He also has gifted
you to serve, so let’s serve! We were not given new life in Christ to be
spectators!
