The Book of Genesis
Day 363
Ge 39:1 Now Joseph
had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of
the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down
there. 2 The LORD was with Joseph, and
he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
Back to the story
of Joseph. Sold into slavery by his brothers, he is carted off to Egypt where
he is purchased by Potiphar. Just 17 years old and he finds himself a servant
in the seat of power in Egypt. His story closely resembling the story of
Daniel, who was carted off to slavery as a teen to serve in the house of the
king of Babylon. Both men were highly used of God to serve his eternal
purposes! Both were called upon to interpret dreams, and both showed an
unwavering reliance on God no matter their circumstances, and both display
servants’ hearts and attitudes toward their masters. The Lord was with both men
and they prospered.
The idea of being
successful or prospering here is to be “pushing forward, to be advancing.”
Wouldn’t you like to have that kind of a track record in all your endeavors?
Wouldn’t you like to have that kind of progress and success?
You can you know.
It is a promise of God found in the first Psalm! Let’s look at it!
Ps 1:1 Blessed is
the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of
sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the
rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also
shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
Verse three
assures us “whatever he does shall “prosper.” Same word! Who is he that
prospers? The one who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in
the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is
in the law of the Lord, he meditates in it day and night.”
If you are lacking
success in your life, feeling like you’re in a rut and not moving forward,
maybe it’s time to get back to these basics. Stop listening to the advice of
the world, flee from any temptations placed in your path, and start taking
God’s Word seriously again. It may be time for you to once again “delight” in
hearing what God’s Word has to say. Let the Word of God have free reign in your
life all day, every day and see how that works for you!
Draw near to Him,
by drawing near to His Word and he promises that He will push you forward in
accordance with His Word, and you can’t do better than that….now can you!
