Isa 4:2 In that day the Branch of the LORD
shall be beautiful and glorious; And the fruit of the earth shall be excellent
and appealing For those of Israel who have escaped. 3 And it shall come to pass
that he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called
holy-everyone who is recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4 When the Lord
has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the blood of
Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of
burning
“In that day,” the Day that the Lord will take away
the “reproach” of Israel The idea of reproach is shame. In this case it is like
pointing a finger at believers and asking them, “Where is your God in all this
that has befallen you?
It’s a common question on the heels of God’s judgment
against His children. When the reproach has run it’s course the Lord steps in
and turns reproach into beauty and glory!
This word from Isaiah was both a short term and long
term prophecy. In the short run, the Babylonian captivity would end and God’s
people (the church) would once again return to Jerusalem and rebuild. In the
long term, this prophecy speaks of the coming of Jesus (the capital “B” Branch
arriving on the scene.
This is the first reference and likening to Jesus as a Branch in the Book of Isaiah, but it is
not the last mention given the Branch in the prophets.
Isa 11:1 There shall come forth a Rod from
the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
Jer
23:5 "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will
raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And
execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
Zec
3:8 'Hear, O Joshua, the high priest, You and your companions who sit before
you, For they are a wondrous sign; For behold, I am bringing forth My Servant
the BRANCH.
The Promised Branch from the root of David. Always a
picture of Christ and His church. As a believer YOU are a branch attached to
the Vine, (the mother branch) of the church. It is just as Jesus said in Jn 15.
You are either with Him or not. Joh 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the
branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me
you can do nothing. 6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a
branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and
they are burned.
Yes there is Light at the end of every tunnel. Don’t
run from it, run to it. For that Light is the Light of the world, the Son of
God, the Branch of David, sent to redeem the world from the reproach of sin. Jesus
said in Joh 8:12, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not
walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
